Who are iStart Peer Mentors?
iStart Peer Mentors are current Wayne State students who will help incoming students launch their academic career through group and leadership activities.
The three-day event will introduce academic skills, campus socialization and community involvement. As student leaders, the peer mentors will spend three days (August 28 – 30) leading small groups of students through the Amazing Warrior Challenge, joining students for a book discussion, guiding them through financial literacy and time management activities and participating in the Warrior Service Day.
Further, peer mentors will follow up with students during early academic assessment (usually mid-term) to learn how the first weeks have progressed.
Peer Mentor training
Students selected as peer mentors for iStart will attend a two-day training session on Thursday, August 7 and Friday, August 8. Make sure you read the summer reading book ...And the Earth Did Not Devour Him before you come! Training session details will be e-mailed to you in July.
