Who are iStart Peer Mentors?
iStart Peer Mentors are current Wayne State students who will help incoming students launch their academic career through group and leadership activities.
The three-day event will introduce academic skills, campus socialization and community involvement. As student leaders, the peer mentors will spend three days (Aug. 31 – Sept. 2) leading small groups of students through the Amazing Warrior Challenge, joining students for a book discussion, guiding them through financial literacy and time management activities and participating in Warrior Service Day.
Further, peer mentors will follow up with students during early academic assessment (usually mid-term) to learn how the first weeks have progressed.
Apply to be a Peer Mentor
Students interested in being an iStart peer mentor will submit an application online and be chosen in the coming weeks.
Peer Mentor training
Students selected as peer mentors for iStart will attend a mandatory two-day training session in August 2009.
